PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and lightweight starter 1 which can reduce noise caused by the hitting between a gear 3 and a gear 7 due to a rotating fluctuation, by arranging a cushioning member 4 in the inside of a pinion gear 3. SOLUTION: The pinion gear 3 constituting the drive mechanism 2 of the starter 1 is divided into a pinion inner 31 and a pinion outer 32 inside and outside. The pinion inner 31 transmits a rotation output of a motor, and the pinion outer 32 has a gear tooth profile. A plurality of stoppers projected in a radiant shape are provided to the inner radius side of the pinion outer 32. Similarly, the same number of stoppers with steps which have a step-height part projected in a radiant shape are provided to the outer radius side of the pinion inner 31. The stoppers and the stoppers with steps are coaxially combined to each other for permitting rotary sliding, and a housing part is formed at the step-height part between stoppers which pair off with each other. The same number of small-sized compression coil springs are arranged which have an energizing force of predetermined compression/deformation characteristics. A rubber elastic plate is joined to a non-step height part, and followability of a rotating fluctuation of a ring gear 7 is improved. Then tooth surfaces are always brought into contact with each other, thus the noise caused by the hitting between the gear 3 and the gear 7 can be reduced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
