PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheel drive unit preventing an operation part from falling downward on the like from the knee even if a user removes the hand from the operation part, and easily detached and attached to a mobile body. SOLUTION: This wheel drive unit 40 for use in the mobile body is provided with a body part rotatably supporting wheels and having a seat part, and a force transmission mechanism freely changing over its state from a connected state connected to the wheels and a non-connected state released from the connection. This wheel drive unit 40 has a fixing part 42, a swing part 52 and a retaining part 70. The fixing part 42 penetrates a main wheel and fixed to the body part. The swing part 52 is swingably supported by the fixing part 42, provided connectably at the main wheel, and has a manual operation part 56 for swinging relative to the fixing part 42. When the manual operation part 56 is disposed so as to be inclined rearward from the vertical direction, the retaining part 70 restricts the swing of the manual operation part 56 by retaining the fixing part 42 and the swing part 52.
