The method involves supplying data carriers (D1, D6, D7) to working stations (A1-A5) that are arranged one upon the other in a processing tower (2). The data carrier (D1) is synchronically transferred from a transport device (1) to the processing tower. The data carrier (D6) processed in the working station is transferred from the tower on the transport device. The processed data carrier (D7) is stored on a space on the transport device, and the processing tower is moved backwards into a starting position after reaching an end position. An independent claim is also included for a device for processing of data carriers.
