<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of ensuring a steady output of an image of high image quality free from nonuniform gloss, without increasing wasteful power consumption of a second fixing means and increasing the size of a drive mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus A includes a first fixing unit 40, and a cooling fan 43 for cooling recording paper passed through the first fixing unit 40. In a second fixing mode, second type recording paper passed through the first fixing unit 40 is ejected onto an ejection tray 131b, via the cooling fan 43 and a belt fixing unit 50A located in a second fixing unit 50. In this case, time needed for the second recording paper passed through the first fixing unit 40 to be conveyed to the belt fixing unit 50A through the cooling fan 43 is estimated.
