PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is applicable to a structure that uses an ink sheet cartridge with an ink sheet exposed to the outside, can suppress removal of the ink sheet cartridge when printing is carried out, and can suppress a decrease of the printing quality. SOLUTION: The ink sheet cartridge 25 with the ink sheet 25a exposed to the outside is set in the image forming apparatus (thermal transfer printer). A detachment-preventing member 27 untouchable by a user is equipped inside a chassis 1. The detachment-preventing member 27 rotates following the rotation of head part pressing members 6 and 7. When printing is carried out, the detachment-preventing member 27 is engaged with a groove part 25i formed in the ink sheet cartridge 25. Even when the user mistakenly performs the removal action of the ink sheet cartridge 25 when printing is carried out, the movement of the ink sheet cartridge 25 is suppressed.
