MODIFIED PARTICLE, CATALYST COMPONENT FOR ADDITION POLYMERIZATION, CATALYST FOR ADDITION POLYMERIZATION AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING ADDITION POLYMER

Particles (I) modified with a bismuth compound and a compound of a Group 15 or 16 nonmetal are new. Particles (I) modified with a bismuth compound of formula BiL1m (1) and a compound of formula R1t-nTHn (2) are new: m = the valence of Bi; L1 = H, halo, hydrocarbyl or hydrocarbyloxy; R1 = an electron-withdrawing groups; T = a Group 15 or 16 nonmetal; t = the valence of T; n = 1 to t, but not 2. Independent claims are also included for: (1) catalyst for addition polymerization produced by contacting (I) with a Group 3-11 transition metal or lanthanide compound and optionally an organoaluminum compound; (2) production of an addition polymer by polymerizing a monomer with a catalyst as above.
