PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrophilic modified polyrotaxane soluble in water or an aqueous solvent, a crosslinked polyrotaxane obtained by using the polyrotaxane, and a solvent for dissolving the hydrophilic modified polyrotaxane. SOLUTION: The hydrophilic modified polyrotaxane comprises cyclic molecules, a linear molecule clathrating the cyclic molecules in a skewer shape, and sealing groups arranged at both terminals of the linear molecule and for preventing the cyclic molecules from being separated. The cyclic molecule is a cyclodextrin, and the whole or a part of the hydroxy groups of the cyclodextrin is modified with a hydrophilic modifying group. The crosslinked polyrotaxane is obtained by binding the hydrophilic modified polyrotaxane with polymers through the cyclic molecules. The solvent for dissolving the hydrophilic modified polyrotaxane contains one or both of water and an aqueous solvent. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
