PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display controller which displays ruby character strings by easy processing even in a character display area with narrow display width in the line direction.

SOLUTION: A display width acquisition part 11 acquires length of a base sentence display line on which ruby base character strings are displayed in the character display area as the display width and a comparison part 12 compares display length of a character string whose display length to be displayed in the line direction is longer between the ruby base character string and the ruby character string or display length of the ruby character string in the line direction with the display width. As a result of comparison, when the display width is smaller than the compared display length of the character string, a display determination part 13 changes a display mode from a parallel mode.
