PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of an optical device having an anisotropic coloring material membrane (polarization membrane) having few defects and high dichroic ratio.

SOLUTION: The production method is a method for producing an optical device having an anisotropic coloring material membrane (polarization membrane) on a film-like support 1 and the coloring material membrane is formed by installing a coating head part (die) 20 for forming a free-span die type head in a coating part 14 of a coating apparatus 10 and coating the support 1 with a coloring material composition by the application head part (die) 20.
