IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS, METHOD AND PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a panoramic still image formed by reducing the effect of shielding due to the reflection of the sun and clouds from a video image consisting of continuous frame images.

SOLUTION: This image processing apparatus is provided with: a frame extraction section 1 extracting frame images from an input video image at a prescribed spacing; a frame memory 2 storing a plurality of extracted frame images; an image selection section 3 dividing each frame image into partial images and selecting partial images most-including an object part out of a plurality of partial images corresponding to the same parts obtained from the different frame images; and a frame joining section 4 making the partial images different from the selected partial images transparent, sequentially joining the plurality of extracted frame images with one another and generating a panoramic still image. This image processing apparatus can thus reduce the effect of the shielding by selecting the partial images least-affected by the shielding out of the plurality of partial images corresponding to the same part of a subject and generating the panoramic still image.
