<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planting mat and a method for laying the mat in order to make planting on an artificial foundation possible, which mat is so light in weight as to be applicable to the existing buildings and easily controllable of soil and water content and requires no enormous labor, time and cost for laying and removal. <P>SOLUTION: The planting mat has concave cells having openings near the bottoms, and comprises mat frames obtained by connecting the cells with ribs each other, filters set in the cells and plant growing materials set on the filters in the cells.
