PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rod rest having various merits such as sure holding of a fishing rod, easy attaching and/or detaching of the fishing rod and easy operation of the rod. SOLUTION: When a fishing rod X is laid on the main body 20 of the rod rest 10, the tip part of the rod is supported by a rod support 40 and the grip X2 of the rod is held with a rod holding part 50. In this state, the gap between the right and left lock levers 60R, 60L of the rod holding part 50 is closed and the upper face of the rod grip X2 is pressed with both levers. When the rod X is raised and removed from such a state, the lock levers 60R, 60L are turned by the force applied by the upper face of the rod X to open the gap between the right and left lock levers 60R, 60L. In the course of turning and opening the lock levers 60R, 60L, the moment to open both levers is not generated before the standing of the laid rod X to an elevation angleθ, and a moment to open both levers is generated by standing the rod beyond the elevation angleθ.
