<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correspond and simultaneously improve both characteristics of driveability and riding comfort, which are contrary to each other in the action for frictional force, to a road surface or a driving condition by controlling the frictional force generated by the oil seal in an oil seal installed in a shock absorber for reciprocating movement. <P>SOLUTION: The oil seal 1 for reciprocating movement is provided with a first seal member 10 extending to a seal object side A to seal slidably with the peripheral surface of the reciprocating shaft 3, and a second seal member 20 extending to a counter seal object side B to seal slidably with the peripheral surface of the reciprocating shaft 3, which are imposed in an annular space formed by a housing 2 and a reciprocating shaft 3 which are mutually relatively movable in the axial direction.
