NITRILE HYDRATASE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING AMIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new nitrile hydratase capable of biochemically producing an amide compound from a corresponding nitrile compound without lowering the activity of nitrile hydratase enzyme and useful e.g. for the enzymatic production of acrylamide.

SOLUTION: The invention provides a new nitrile hydratase producing an α-hydroxyamide by using an α-hydroxynitrile as a substrate and a DNA encoding the enzyme. The enzyme can be obtained from Rhodococcus sp. Adp12 and Gordonia sp. BR-1 strain. The enzyme stably keeps the enzymatic activity during the reaction. The invention further provides a method for producing an amide compound containing a step to treat a nitrile compound with the enzyme.
