The method involves providing a fuel gas-inlet valve between a housing (11) and a nozzle needle. An electromechanical solid body drive (6) e.g. piezoelectric actuator, is arranged at an end of a nozzle needle that is turned away from the combustion chamber. An injector (5) is electrically controlled such that it has a continuous injection discharge rate during a working cycle of an engine. A force/stroke-transformer is inserted between the drive and the needle.
