<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which is capable of correcting the variance in characteristic of an optical sensor to automatically control turning-on/off of a back light or the like with preliminarily determined prescribed brightness and allows the optical sensor to be manufactured simultaneously with manufacturing a display panel and can be set by an end user so that the back light or the like can be automatically turned on/off in accordance with arbitrary ambient brightness. <P>SOLUTION: The display device includes the display panel provided with an active matrix substrate, a photodetection part 2, a threshold storage part 6, a comparison part 4, and a lighting means. In a normal operation mode, an output of the photodetection part 2 is compared with a threshold stored in the threshold storage part 6 by the comparison part 4, and turning-on/off of the lighting means is controlled on the basis of the comparison result. In an initialization mode, the output of the photodetection part 2 is stored in the threshold storage part 4 while radiating reference light to the optical sensor. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
