PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To directly perform density correction upon a binary image constructed from a number of halftone dots, while maintaining image quality, by using a simple algorithm. SOLUTION: Information of an AM screen is utilized to prepare, as data, 99 ways of halftone dot shaped patterns P1-P99 resulting from screening processing to a single density image in 1% to 99%. When a non-corrected image I is given as a target of density correction processing, a density correction mode is designated by a gamma curve. A portion matching any one of 99 ways of halftone dot shaped patterns is found out of this non-corrected image I, and this matching portion is replaced with another halftone dot shaped pattern. When a portion matching a halftone dot shaped pattern P24 of 24% is replaced with a halftone dot shaped pattern of 29%, density correction can be performed to increase a dot gain of a halftone dot from 24% to 29%.
