PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of generating image data with high resolution without increasing the cost. SOLUTION: The image reader generates image data of one main scanning line by pixel data generated by a color CCD array or a monochrome CCD array, wherein the color CCD array and the monochrome CCD array are arranged so that main scanning position is different, and the image reader is provided with: a reception means for receiving a generating instruction of monochrome image data with high resolution; a color conversion means for converting color pixel data generated by the color CCD array into monochrome pixel data; and an image data generation means for generating the monochrome image data of the one main scanning line with the monochrome pixel data generated by the conversion and the monochrome pixel data generated by the monochrome CCD array.
