PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Alq3 capable of giving better EL element characteristics, especially a high emitted light brightness. SOLUTION: This organic EL material consists of tris(8-oxyquinolinolato)aluminum characterized by having≤0.05 g/L solubility toward toluene under a normal pressure at 25°C. The method for producing the organic EL material is characterized by comprising a first process of holding the tris(8-oxyquinolinolato)aluminum having >0.5 g/L solubility toward toluene as the raw material under nitrogen or argon atmosphere at≥360°C and <420°C temperature for≥5 min, and a second process of sublimating afterwards.
