PHOTOLUMINESCENT LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY

A photo-luminescent LCD is provided to prevent red and green fluorescent elements of a fluorescent layer from being excited and irradiated by an external light, thereby improving the contrast of an image, by using a color filter layer for blocking blue light included in the external light. A lower substrate(100) and an upper substrate(120) are disposed to face each other and distanced from each other. A liquid crystal layer(140) is formed between the lower substrate and the upper substrate. A backlight unit(150) is disposed under the lower substrate, and emits blue light. A fluorescent layer(127) is formed above the upper substrate. The fluorescent layer is excited and irradiated by the blue light, which is emitted from the backlight unit and passes through the liquid crystal layer and the upper substrate. The fluorescent layer includes red fluorescent elements(127R) formed within red pixel regions and green fluorescent elements(127G) formed within green pixel regions. A color filter layer(128) is formed above the fluorescent layer. The color filter layer prevents the red and green fluorescent elements from being excited and irradiated by an external light. The color filter layer includes red filters(128R) and green filters(128G) respectively formed above the red fluorescent elements and the green fluorescent elements.
