摘要 <p>Ambient Network (AN) characterized by Ambient Control Space and Connectivity includes interfaces with other ANs to exchange information about services and available resources. Within AN, a Resource Manager (RM) functionality operates either in a centralized or distributed fashion. The RM functionality calculates the bearer service (BS) availability for each specified access route on the basis of load information, in order to exchange at those interfaces negotiation messages which contain Bearer Service Description Information Elements (IE) for the purpose of describing required bearer services and/or the bearer services that can be offered end-to-end over the specified access routes. The description includes in its turn: BS characteristics, BS requirements, and BS availability information elements. The RM foresees multi-access operations, Multi Radio Transmission Diversity (MRTD) between accesses in the same or different ANs, multi-hop, unicast, multicast/broadcast (M/B), UL/DL, cost and security management even in a combined fashion. The access route is specified end-to-end from one route head to one or more route ends, possibly passing through one or more networks and different access technologies. A route head corresponds to a given AN. A route end corresponds either to a network(s) or to specific "access methods" of a network. An access method may correspond to a given access technology (e.g. GSM), or to a sub-technology of a given technology (e.g. UMTS HSDPA), or to a generic method how to access a network (e.g. GLL parallel transmission between UMTS) (fig.5).</p>
