A method and a system for providing an avatar service are provided to enable a user to enjoy avatar group activity including families, friends, and communities, and perform purchase/settlement in a cyber shop by generating an avatar for cyber space in a mobile terminal. An avatar server(140) generates the avatar and an avatar group by receiving information from the mobile terminal(110) connected through the mobile network(120) or a gateway(130), and transfers visit and purchase information of the avatar to the cyber shop(160). An avatar service database(150) classifies and stores data related to the avatar service, provides the data according to a request of the avatar server, and stores the avatar, the avatar group, a mobile phone number, and history information of a mobile terminal user. The avatar server provides an avatar list for enabling the mobile terminal to select the avatar and pays cyber money to the avatar based on the avatar activity performed in the cyber space. If the purchase information is received from the avatar server, purchased articles are settled and delivered to the mobile terminal user. |
