<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a personal authentication apparatus, capable of performing, in personal authentication by finger vein pattern, collation of a detected finger vein pattern with a preliminarily registered finger vein pattern, taking into consideration the length of the finger. <P>SOLUTION: The personal authentication apparatus includes a finger vein pattern input device comprising a finger-placing means including the body, a fingertip table, and a finger-root table; an irradiation means set on the inner wall surface of the body and irradiating the finger placed on the finger-tip table and the finger-root table with light; and an imaging means incorporated in the body and imaging the finger irradiated with light.
