<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing cast paper for ink-jet printing use excellent in ink absorptivity, surface gloss and printed image quality and causing no microcracks. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the cast paper comprises forming an undercoating layer by coating a substrate with a coating liquid essentially containing a pigment, a binder and a nonionic surfactant, coating the undercoating layer with a top coating layer followed by pressure bonding to a heated and planished solid surface while the top coating layer is in a wet state to impart the coating layer surface with gloss.
