The device has a container (8) for receiving and providing a liquid (10) to a cleaning device (4) of a printing machine. Measuring and control devices (44, 46) are provided for detecting a measuring value depending on the viscosity of the liquid. A filling device (31) is provided with an inlet flow channel for controlling filling of the container with the liquid via the channel. The measuring device detects the liquid level in the container. The control device activates the filling device for filling the container with a preset filling pressure to raise the liquid level in the container. An independent claim is also included for a measuring method for measuring a measuring value depending on the viscosity of a liquid.
