PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and accurately discriminate the kind of an optical disk by detecting presence of a CAPA (Complimentary Allocated Pit Address). SOLUTION: The optical disk loaded on a disk device is rotated with the fixed number of rotations, a focus servo is turned ON while a tracking servo is turned OFF, amplitude of an RF signal read from the optical disk is detected at every predetermined time interval by an optical pickup, the number of RF signals of which the maximum value of the amplitude of the detected RF signal is at a first reference level or more and the minimum value of the RF signal is at a second reference level or less is counted as detection frequency of the CAPA, the optical disk is rotated by a predetermined amount, whether or not the counted detection frequency of the CAPA is at least predetermined frequency or more and the kind of the optical disk is discriminated.
