A cowl cross bar for an automobile is provided to reduce the whole weight of the automobile by reducing weight thereof by using a foaming resin or a glass fiber compound material, and effectively prevent drooping thereof. A cowl cross bar(1) for an automobile comprises a carbon steel pipe(2) and a foaming resin(3). Thickness of the carbon steel pipe is reduced compared to in a conventional cowl cross bar. The foaming resin is foamed and put in the carbon steel pipe. A glass fiber compound material(4) can be applied between the carbon steel pipe and the foaming resin. Cooperative operation of the glass fiber compound material and the foaming resin can maintain stiffness of the cowl cross bar while preventing torsion of the cowl cross bar.
