An optical scanning device is provided to correct misalignment at high precision and to obtain data about misalignment in a factory by a measuring instrument. An optical scanning device included in an image forming apparatus is composed of: a light source for emitting plural beams; a rotary polygon mirror(303) for rotatively deflecting the beams; a lens(305) for passing the deflected beams; and a maintaining unit for keeping data related to a main scanning direction misalignment among plural beams on a photoconductor installed in the image forming apparatus, wherein the data is determined in advance by detecting the beams having passed through the lens before the optical scanning device is installed in the image forming apparatus. The data related to the main scanning direction misalignment includes data for correcting the main scanning direction misalignment among the beams on the photoconductor.
