<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce computational complexity and an increase in overhead of coded data as to a fade image, and to considerably improve the predictive efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: In carrying out motion compensation predictive inter-frame coding to a coding object block in a coding object frame of a moving picture by using a plurality of reference frames with a prescribed combination and a motion vector between the coding object block and at least one reference frame, the moving picture coding method determines weighting factors expressed in a rational number using a denominator taking a value of 2's power set to each coding object frame, determines a DC offset value from the difference between a DC component value in the coding object frame and a DC component value in the reference frame, computes a linear sum by using the weighting factors as to a plurality of reference blocks extracted from the reference frames and adds the DC offset value to the linear sum to produce the predictive block, produces a predictive error signal between a predicted block and the coding object block, and codes respective information items such as the predictive error signal, the reference frames, weighting factors comprising the denominator and a numerator being a rational number, the DC offset value, and the motion vector. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
