<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust-gas cleaning apparatus of an internal combustion engine which can control adhesion of particulate material in an exhaust gas to a catalyst carrier. <P>SOLUTION: The carrier 2 is housed in a case 3 which has an exhaust-gas inlet 4a which is an inlet of the exhaust gas and a cone part 3a in which the passage sectional area gradually increases from the exhaust-gas inlet 4a to the lower stream, wherein a part which is the upstream end side of the carrier 2 and shows that a passage sectional shape of the exhaust-gas inlet 4a is reflected in the flowing direction of the exhaust gas, is projected upstream, a side 2a, which is projected upstream, is flat and located upstream below the position where the passage sectional area of the cone part 3a is maximum, and a side 2b in the range of the periphery of the side 2a projected upstream to the periphery above the carrier is located downstream as the periphery of the carrier 2 approaches and also is concave downstream. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
