A method for managing unique information of a mobile terminal and the mobile terminal are provided to prevent a mobile terminal from being illegally copied or wiretapped by changing unique information based on pre-set state information and to set a terminal to be a locked state according to a received text message. A memory(200) stores unique information of a mobile terminal. When a text message including pre-set data is received, a controller(300) performs a locking operation in order to prevent the unique information stored in the memory(200) from being changed without permission. The unique information includes at least one of a MIN(Mobile Identification Number), an ESN(Electrical Serial Number), an SCM(Station Class Mark), an NID(Network Identification Number) and an SID(System Identification Number).
