<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of effectively reducing various irregularities such as right-and-left color difference and fine streaks in a recording surface over all density areas, without causing a level difference, etc. due to correction. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 10 is configured to include an image reading section 12, an image recording section 14 and a control section 16. The control section 16 is configured to include an image signal conversion section 60, a correction operation section 62, a test image data generating circuit 64 and a selector 66. When a correction table used in the image signal conversion section 60 is created, test images outputted from the test image data generating circuit 64 and including density patterns for respective colors Y, M, C and K are printed on a paper P and read by the image reading section 12. The correction operation section 62 obtains a gradation characteristic in each pixel position, based on the image data of the read test images and creates the correction table, based on the gradation characteristic, to output the correction table to the image signal conversion section 60.
