A phosphor-converted light emitting diode (LED) device, e.g. for emitting white light, includes a lens 144 over a phosphor body 122, in which the lens and the phosphor body each have a substantially convex upper surface. The LED device may alternatively include first (522) and second (536) lenses (figure 5), the first lens having a substantially flat interface with a phosphor body (526).
