A storage medium management method in a combination system is provided to be capable of allocating all areas of a storage medium by entering a pseudo FAT32 mode which sets the best bit when TS(Time Shift) recording is initiated, and of transferring/generating some areas if a file/directory generation request is received from the outside while an FAT32 mode is returned once the TS recording is completed, thus a bad sector is decreased. When a recording signal is provided from an input unit, broadcasting video data is recorded on a storage medium in a TS type(S201-S205). The storage medium enters a pseudo FAT32 mode according to the TS recording process to allocate entire areas(S207,S209). If a request signal for generating files and directories is provided from the input unit while the TS recording process is performed in the allocated areas, some areas only of the entire areas are transferred to generate/store the requested files and directories in the transferred areas(S211-S217). When the TS recording process is terminated, the pseudo FAT32 mode is changed into an FAT32 mode(S219,S221).
