FAIL DETECTOR FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

A failure detecting apparatus for an automatic transmission is provided to detect a state of an oil pressure switch before an engine is started, irrespective of a state of an electric hydraulic actuator. A failure detecting apparatus determines a state of an oil pressure switch detecting operating pressure of each friction element. An oil pressure switch on detecting member detects whether any of the oil pressure switches is switched on. A failure determining member determines a state of the oil pressure switch based on the detected result obtained by the oil pressure switch on detecting member. The failure determining member has a first failure determining member determining whether the oil pressure switch has failed when the oil pressure switch on detecting member detects an on state of the oil pressure switch before an engine is started.
