PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an electrochemical display element capable of decreasing a sealing width observed from a visual side without decreasing the quality even in the case of the display element having a thickness of 300μm or more, and to provide an electrochemical display element obtained by the method. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an electrochemical display element comprises interposing a reflective electrochemical display medium showing a white color by scattering of light between two substrates having electrodes. The method includes a step of interposing the electrochemical display medium having a thickness of 300μm to 1,200μm and a sealing structural material having insulating and gas barrier properties enclosing the periphery of the electrochemical display medium between two substrates so as to seal the electrochemical display medium with the two substrates and the sealing structural material.
