PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink cartridge which can prevent bubbles from being mixed into the ink supplied to a recording head upon ink usage, thereby ensuring stability in printing and to provide an ink injection method thereof. SOLUTION: The ink cartridge 1 is attachably/detachably connected to the recording head for a recording apparatus, and provided with a container main body 2 having a lower ink containing chamber 11 open to the atmospheric air through a dividing wall 10 and an upper ink containing chamber (upper first ink containing chamber 16) communicated with the lower ink containing chamber and lead to the head. A differential pressure valve is provided in a differential pressure valve housing chamber 33 formed in the upper ink containing chamber. The ink flows through an ink supply outlet 4 from the upper ink containing chamber via the differential pressure valve. Injection of the ink is performed by injecting the ink to the part between the lower ink containing chamber and the ink supply outlet while depressurizing suction from the ink supply outlet is performed.
