<p>A method for driving a plasma display panel (2) is disclosed. The plasma display panel (2) has a screen (15) comprising a plurality of cells, in each of which first and second electrodes (11, 12) are arrayed adjacent to each other. Addressing for generating a predetermined wall voltage between the first and second electrodes in a cell to be lit and the application of a sustain pulse (83) for initiating the display discharge in the cell to be lit are performed in sequence. After that, an erase pulse (88) having a smaller amplitude than the sustain pulse (83) is applied between the electrodes. In this plasma display panel driving, the lighting ratio that is a ratio of the number of cells to be lit to the total number of cells is detected based on the display data that determines the content of the addressing. According to the detected lighting ratio, the amplitude of the erase pulse (88), which is applied after the sustain pulse displaying the relevant display data and by the following addressing, is so changed as to be a higher voltage when the lighting ratio is larger.</p> |
