PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical navigation device operated on a transparent layer. SOLUTION: A method and a system for the optical navigation device 110 constituted so as to generate navigation information through the transparent layer 150 are provided. To put it concretely, the optical navigation device 110 has a light source 120 constituted so as to illuminate a reflecting surface 160 through the optically transparent layer 150 to the light source 120. A sensor 130 is constituted so as to generate the navigation information corresponding to light reflected by the reflecting surface 160. The sensor 130 has a constitution having the depth of field agreeing with the distance between the sensor 130 and the reflecting surface 160. The optical navigation device also includes a contact sensor 210 for showing the state where the optical navigation device 110 becomes out of contact with the transparent layer 150.
