PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a white balance control unit capable of accurately carrying out correction independently of the transfer efficiency of an imaging element and to provide an imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: A transfer efficiency detecting unit 70 detects the transfer efficiency of a CCD 36. A camera sensitivity detecting unit 72 acquires sensitivity information of the CCD 36. A light source color temperature detection unit 74 acquires color temperature information of a light source calculated by a CPU 10. A drive frequency detection unit 76 acquires a drive pulse frequency of the CCD 36. An enclosure temperature detection unit 78 detects the temperature of an enclosure of a camera 1. A WB integration value correction unit 80 corrects a WB integral value (R/G, B/G) on the basis of the transfer efficiency, the sensitivity, and a driving frequency of the CCD 36, the light source color temperature information, and the enclosure temperature information. An AE/AWB detection circuit 62 calculates color dependent average integral values of the signals by each division area and provides the results to the CPU 10. The CPU 10 discriminates the type of the light source on the basis of the distribution or the like of the R/G and B/G by each division area in the color space to control the gain value (white balance correction value) applied to the R, G, B signals thereby correcting each color signal.
