PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration in both the recording and reproducing performance when information is alternately recorded and reproduced to a recording medium. SOLUTION: When data is alternately recorded and reproduced to an optical disk, a CPU decides whether recording of data has ended or not (S2) upon receiving a reproducing instruction of data from a host computer (S1). If it is decided that the recording of data has not ended, the CPU sets a reproducing speed in response to the reproducing command to be identical to a recording speed at the immediately preceding recording (S3), performs reproducing processing at the set speed (S4), and ends the processing.
