The L-shaped rail (2) has an elongated first arm (4) with apertures (8) adjoined by a second arm (6) which is thicker than the first arm and has a stop face (16) which can be placed against the edge of the tile (12). The second arm (6) at its end after adjoining the edge of the tile has an outwardly open channel (18) for inserting a jointing substance. The second arm has in the area of the channel at least one indentation (20) which is likewise used to insert sealant or jointing material. The rail can be made of plastics or of aluminium, brass or stainless steel.
