<p>The method involves providing a sensor unit for a piston rod and another sensor unit that is fixed to a cylinder. The sensor units cooperate with a computer device for determining a position of the piston rod. The sensor units provide a 0-1output signal that represents a border position of the piston rod, where a position per unit of time of a vibration absorber (5) is adjustable in damping force characteristics of the absorber. An independent claim is also included for a vibration absorber with an auxiliary spring.</p>
