A method and a system for detecting traffic information are provided to simultaneously obtain much traffic information by detecting the traffic information on plural lanes at the same time. A camera tapes a specific section of a road to obtain image data. A detection region setting unit(32) divides the image data into detection regions according to lanes. The detection regions are defined to be 5m long and 5m apart from each other. A binary unit(34) converts the image data of the respective detection regions into binary data. A noise removing unit(35) removes a noise around a vehicle from the binary image data. A traffic amount detector(36) calculates a mean number of entrance vehicles to detect the traffic amount. A speed sensor(37) calculates a mean passing speed of the vehicle and detects the speed of the vehicle. A capacity ratio detector(38) calculates a mean occupancy time of the vehicle on the detection regions in percentages to detect a capacity ratio. |
