PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a liner improved efficiently in mechanical strength including compressive strength, burst strength and rigidity with no occurrence of any operational problems through applying a specific paper surface coating agent. SOLUTION: The method for producing the liner having the advantages comprises coating one side or both sides of a liner produced by mutual papermaking operation of at least three wet paper layers with a paper coating agent comprising a branched-type copolymerized polyacrylamide having cationic and/or anionic groups and having a weight-average molecular weight of 50,000 or greater but less than 1,000,000.
