<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent overlooking of a defect by removing a noise caused by adhering waterdrops on a seam part or the like by image processing, concerning a seaming defect inspection of a can using a ring image of the seam upper end. <P>SOLUTION: In this seaming defect inspection method, the end face of the can is imaged by an imaging means, and the ring width is measured at proper intervals, and the can is determined to have a seaming defect when some data which are larger than a prescribed ring width threshold and a prescribed ring width difference threshold exist in ring width data and width difference data. The method includes a noise removal processing for removing a noise related to the ring width caused by waterdrops adhering to the seam part or the like, and in the noise removal processing, a changing state of the width is determined relative to a part having a wider ring width than a fixed value, and a part whose width is steeply changed furthermore than a prescribed state is removed as a noise.
