The method involves receiving a transponder signal with several spaced apart antennas. The respective signals are then transmitted to a measurement and analysis unit. The signals are processed by digital transformation so that the base station can be focused mathematically at a spatial point at which the transponder is located. Independent claims also cover a base station and a transponder.
