A method for transmitting a group message of a mobile terminal and a mobile terminal for performing the same are provided to allow a user to select a group from a phone book, select a message creation menu, and transmit a message to a phone number of the selected group. Phone numbers of each group are maintained in a phone book of a mobile terminal(201). The phone book is entered according to a user selection and a group is selected by the user(202). A message creation menu with respect to the group is selected by the user(203). A phone number belonging to the group is included in a receiver phone number in the message creation menu(204). Message content is received from the user and a message including the inputted message content is transmitted to the receiver phone number(205).
