The bottle sorting process involved lifting the bottles out of the crates (3) and increasing the spacing between then, so that at least one camera (9) at the camera point (61) can be brought between adjacent bottle to view them from the side. The pictures produced by the camera go to a picture recognition device, which detects which type of bottle is being handled before sending them to an appropriate sorting surface (11, 12, 13).
