PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyarylate resin higher in heat resistance than conventional polyarylate resins obtained from bisphenol A as a raw material and suitably usable for electronic materials for which excellent electrical insulation and dielectric properties are required in particular, and to provide the resultant polyarylate resin. SOLUTION: The new polyarylate resin of high heat resistance is represented by the general formula(1)[ wherein, Ar is a bivalent aromatic compound group; and R<SP>1</SP>is a (substituted) alkyl ].
